The term is originally associated with the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates, in his defense when on trial for his life." –December 2016 I associate The Gadfly with the task of exposing the "Elephant in the Room";the obvious ironies, hypocrisies or blindness regarding the actions of a group or individual.  The Gadfly is not to be confused with an obnoxious "asshole" who seeks attention to delight or entertain oneself.  The Gadfly is an archetype essential to the well being of a society and unfortunately often pays a heavy price for freedom of mind and pointing out the obvious.   For Every Body Practitioner; Pros and Cons of a Teacher June 27th, 2016  Yesterday my yoga teacher encouraged me to put down in words my thoughts regarding the dangers of following the teacher.  Observing what an accomplished yoga practitioner demonstrates and attempting to “mimic” what is being demonstrated is the point at which much ignorance can blossom.   We thought these insights might be useful for future teachers within the lineages of Yoga who are new to teaching. These insights are from someone who has experienced many teachers, many lessons and found alignment through necessity rather than desire while suffering through her attempt to follow the instructions and please the teacher. The beginning stages of learning and teaching are actually the most precarious stage for both novices: the teacher and student.  Far better to match an experienced student with an inexperienced teacher or the experienced teacher with the novice student as ignorance is not ...
